The history of its origins :

The Peacock Butterfly belongs to the Nymphalidae family. It is so called because of the "eyes" (ocelli) drawn on its wings, that remind of the patterns of peacock feathers. These eyespots enable the Peacock butterfly to scare birds despite its small size (5-6 cm wide) because when taking the sun wings spread, they can mimic the brilliance of a cat eyes ... Of course, this does not prevent enemies from attacking sometimes ... But as they aim at those drawings, they snapped a small wing tip without touching the vital parts.

The Peacock butterfly is just out of hibernation: the first rays of the sun took him out of the stash where he slept all winter. This species lives each year in two generations: a butterfly will reproduce and his descendants will fly during the spring. Then they will give birth to the future wintering.

You will not have difficulties to see the Peacock butterfly if you want to: it lives in Europe and Asia. The Peacock butterfly frequents both rural and urban areas and you will find it for sure next to its favorite plant: the nettle!
